Shiloh Cemetery

A Texas Historic Cemetery

Inscriptions:

The Inscripions are listed  by row beginning in the northwest corner, listing from north to south for each row.

There are eleven rows in the cemetery with row #1 begining the northwest corner. (See Plat Map)

To the left of each marker is a number that correspond to numbers on the Plat Map.

Example: 3.4 shows that Lena Johnson is the 4th marker in row 3.

The oldest extant gravestone with an inscription is that of the infant son of J.W. and S. J. McKinzie (No. 2 in Row 6) who died Jan. 15, 1892.

The last burial (as determined from gravestone inscriptions) was that of Martha Ann Hogan (No. 5 in Row 6) who died March 11, 1928.

It is probable that there were burials here earlier than 1892 and later than 1928.  However, that cannot be determined because most graves are marked by sandstone markers only with no inscriptions.

It is not possible to determine with certainty the exact number of gravesites in this old cemetery because of the uneven and disturbed terrain and the many small rock fragments that could be pieces from broken and displaced grave markers.

In this inventory, 58 gravesites were identified.

Fourteen of the 58 are identified by inscription on the gravestones.

Of the fourteen, two are marked with initials only.
