Condition:
This old cemetery, established in the 1850s or early 1860s, is an area of
about 1/4acre. It is enclosed by a four foot high chain link fence. There
are two double wide (10 ft.) gates in the east fence line. The main
entrance is at midpoint in the east fence line. The other gate is at the
southeast comer of the cemetery.
Time (about 160 years) and lack of maintenance have taken a toll on this
old cemetery. Due to weathering over time many of the tombstone
inscriptions have deteriorated and are not decipherable. This is especially
true in regard to the condition of headstones that are fashioned from
sandstone and grave markers of concrete. The inscriptions on most are
weathered and aged to the extent that gathering of vital information is no
longer possible. Some brush and cactus needs to be removed from areas
around grave sites.
