Location:
The Feazle Rock Cemetery is located in west San Saba County near the San Saba River on the ancestral lands of George Feazle and his family, most of which is now owned by Mr. O. P. Leonard of Fort Worth, Texas.

GPS:    Latitude: 31.163o N Longitude: 98.536o W

Directions:
From San Saba city limit go west on U. S. 190 7.9 miles to CR 340. Turn left onto CR 340 and go south southwest 2.9 miles to the Feazle Rock Cemetery on the right.

Condition:
This cemetery is a rectangular area about 40 yards by 60 yards. It is fenced by a three feet high chain link fence with an entrance gate on the south side of the cemetery adjacent to a small parking area and CR 340. Graves are easy to locate and the cemetery is well maintained. A rock wall constructed of native limestone rock originally enclosed this Feazle family cemetery. It was from this rock wall that the cemetery came to be known as the Feazle Rock Cemetery. The rock enclosure is said to have been the finest rock construction of its kind to be erected in San Saba County. The wall was constructed without the use of mortar of any kind. The rock was laid on a smooth foundation two feet wide and three feet high with a row of flat stone laid horizontally along the top. This rock fence was so precisely laid that it stood for almost one hundred years.

  • My original inventory of the Feazle Rock Cementery was completed in 2007.  At that time there were:
  •  54 idenified gravesites in the cemetery
  • 46 were identified by inscription on the tombstone.  3 of the 46 were maked for future interment.
  • 4 gravesites were marked with concrete markers only  with no names or dates.
  • Old cemetery records provide information as to name and location of 4 of the 54 gravesites.

Burials in this cemetery since July 14, 2007 have been those of:

  (32) Ringo, Dorothy P.   May 30, 1917 -  Feb 10, 2008

 ( ) Hunt, Melvin  Jan 3, 1943 - June 3, 2011

( ) OHNHEISER,  Francis Teague  Mar 19, 1933 - June 19, 2009

Final Comments:

Those who give care and attention to this old historic cemetery are to be highly commended.  In my orginal  inventory I reported that the burial site of Margare Squire and her twin daughtes was completely covered by large blocks of sandstone from the old rock fence.  This made it impossible to find the grave marker.

I am happy to report that the pile of large sandstones has been removed and a rock curbed plot has been constructed around the gravesite.  Now the single sandstone marker with the initials "M.S. is at the head of the gravesite.
