CONDITION:
The Wallace Creek Cemetery is among the oldest in San Saba County, and it is still in use as a burial ground in 2015. The date of the first burial at this site is not known. The oldest extant gravestone with an identifiable inscription is that of Anna York Ashley who was born March 7, 1851, and died July 27, 1878.
This well-managed and maintained old cemetery is an area of about 10 acres. The land for the cemetery was donated by William Patrick Sloan to the County of San Saba in 1882 for use by the county as a cemetery. Record of this gift of land to the County of San Saba with the stated purpose is recorded in the official public records of San Saba County in Vol. K, page 98.
A Cemetery association has been established to provide management and upkeep of the cemetery.
