Condition:
This old cemetery, which had been abandoned for many years, was in poor condition. It was open pasture for livestock and several tombstones have been broken. The entire area was consumed by mesquite trees, bee brush and prickly pear cactus. However, as of March 2008, property owner Mr. Joe C. Freeman had fenced the 1.5-acre plot and had a turnstile gate built and installed at the entrance to his property to provide public access. Much of the intruding vegetation has been cleared away. He also has plans for repairing broken and otherwise damaged headstones. Much is now being done to restore and save this old cemetery, which deserves to have its history, recorded. When looking into the history of any area (county, region, or state) one will soon recognize the inherent importance of cemeteries as a basic source of information. Mr. Freeman, in coordination with the San Saba County Historical commission, is now engaged in preserving the history in and of this old cemetery.
