Algerita Cemetery

Location:
Old Algerita, one of Texas’s historic cemeteries, is located in west central San Saba County in the Algerita community. The cemetery is on the “Duncan Place,” property owned by the Duncan Family since the mid 1850’s. The property is now owned by Larry and Nancy Howard. Nancy is the great-granddaughter of the original Duncan owner.

Directions:

• From San Saba city limit on U. S. Highway 190, go west 6.2 miles to CR 126.
• Turn right onto CR 126. Go north through the community of Algerita and cross CR 204 (old highway).
• Continue in northerly direction 2.4 mi. to CR 128.
• Turn right onto CR 128 and go .6 mile to a sharp right turn.
• Immediately after turning right, there is a gate and an old barn on the left.
• Turn left through gate and go past an old barn. Just past the old barn, the cemetery is on the left.

Condition: This old cemetery established in the 1860’s has served as a burial ground for the surrounding community to the present. It is in remarkably good condition and is well maintained. It is an area of about one and one-fourth acres enclosed by a four foot high wire fence. The east fence has two
entrance gates that provide vehicular and pedestrian access into the cemetery.
