May Cemetery

Location:

This small cemetery is located in southern San Saba County in the Salt Branch Community about three miles southeast of the town of Cherokee.  It is on land once owned by pioneer settler John Samuel May and is now owned by the H. B. Parisher family.

Directions:

            From the town of Cherokee go south 0.8 mile on state highway 16 to the intersection with County Road 437.

            Turn left onto CR 437.

            Go east 2.0 miles to gate into Parisher pasture at old Black house.
            Turn right into Parisher pasture and veer right, go uphill and follow pasture road ¼ mile to the cemetery on the left 
             at a deer feeder.

Condition:

This family cemetery is on private property and has not been used as a burial ground since 1915.  It is an area of about 22 ft. by 22 ft. enclosed by a chain link fence with a 3 ft. wide walk-through gate at midpoint in the east fence line.  The cemetery has been well cared for over the years by the May family.
