Latham Cemetery

Location:      
  This small cemetery, established in the early 1860’s, is located in southwest San Saba County.  This family burial site is back of and to the southeast of the location of the old Jack Latham home.  The old house has been replaced by a new house now owned by granddaughter Virginia H. Duncan.  This old historic cemetery is on private property off the Deer Creek Cemetery Road 3.7 miles north of State Highway 71.

Directions:
      From the community of Pontotoc:
 

  • Go west 7.4 miles on State Highway 71 to the intersection with County Road 364. (Deer Creek Cemetery Road)
  • Turn right onto CR 364 and go north to Duncan Road sign on right.
  • Turn right onto the private Duncan Road that leads to the Duncan house.
  • Turn right in front of the Duncan House.  Go east past the house and cross a small dry creek bed.  The cemetery is on the left on the bank of Deer Creek in a grove of large oak trees.

 

From the town of Cherokee: 

  • Off State Highway 16 turn west onto FM 501
  • Go west 15.7 miles on FM 501 to the intersection with CR 373.
  • Turn right onto CR 373 and continue west 6.1 miles to the intersection with CR 364.
  • Turn right onto CR 364 and go north to Duncan Road sign.
  • Turn right onto Duncan Road that leads to Duncan House. Turn right in front of the house. Go east past the house and cross a small dry creek bed.  The cemetery is on the left on the bank of Deer Creek in a grove of large oak trees.

Condition:      This family burial site is a small rectangular plot enclosed by iron fencing.  The cemetery is situated on the west bank of Deer Creek in a grove of large oak trees near a small spring fed pond.  Each of the four graves is covered by a concrete slab.
